The Superconscious Creator Blog...
“It's not what you are that holds you back, it's what you think you are not.” - Denis Waitley
Introduction:
It may not be as it appears… what you are about to read may be controversial BUT ‘mind altering’.
The human psyche is complex, is both resilient and fragile, challenging and fascinating to say the least. To understand it … even just a little bit requires an interdisciplinary approach, integrating insights from psychology, neuroscience, biology, sociology, and other fields. This complexity also means that individual experiences and behaviors can vary widely.
My childhood was survival, at the hand of my mother with very violent psychiatric, narcissistic, manipulative tendencies, that took me on a unique, lone wolf career path serving in the military, to becoming a medical scientist, a successful holistic health practitioner and high level business leadership development mentor and coach over the last 30 years.
I have to make a stand, and squash the trend of misinformation that has spread like a cancer, spoken by the unqualified ‘experts’ who talk about ‘Imposter Syndrome’, praying on the vulnerable new generation of hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurs chasing their dreams.
In this blog I want to get real and raw with some clinical FACTS, plus give you a different perspective to consider and even overcome, if you think you come under the category of ‘Imposter Syndrome’. PLUS at the end, look at the valuable list of 9 empowering action steps!
This “phenomenon” was introduced in 1978 by clinical psychologists Dr. Pauline R. Clance and Dr. Suzanne A. Imes. They first described it in their paper titled "The Imposter Phenomenon in High Achieving Women: Dynamics and Therapeutic Intervention." In their research, Clance and Imes identified a common pattern among high-achieving women who, despite their academic and professional accomplishments, felt they were not as capable or intelligent as others perceived them to be and feared being exposed as frauds.
So anyone feeling self doubt, overwhelm or anxious can ask Google or Chat GPT what Imposter Syndrome is, and self diagnose after they read something like this 👇
“Imposter Syndrome is a psychological phenomenon where individuals doubt their accomplishments and have a persistent fear of being exposed as a "fraud." Despite external evidence of their competence, people experiencing Imposter Syndrome feel that they do not deserve their success or the recognition they receive. They often attribute their achievements to luck, timing, or deceiving others into thinking they are more capable than they actually are.”
This is only the beginning of the toxic psychological coercion and sensationalism you read online. You then see it flooding the social media platforms, video’s, reels, masterclasses, even supposed experts (who have no clinical background whatsoever) offering courses on how to overcome this ‘Syndrome’.
Let me tell you right now …. You don’t have a DISEASE!!!
Speaking to you as a Medical Scientist, because I can… yes syndromes are a clinical condition. Let's look at that for a minute.
The term "syndrome" generally refers to a group or set of symptoms and signs that consistently occur together or a condition characterized by a particular group of symptoms. A syndrome can be associated with a specific disease, disorder, or other health condition, and it often implies that the collection of symptoms and signs may have a common cause, even if that cause is not yet fully understood.
DISCLAIMER: The information in this blog is not diagnosing, treating or curing a medical condition. If you are concerned about for physical or emotional health, consult a physician.
Let me circle back to a few paragraphs.
In 1978, research spoke about it being a “phenomena”.
There are many pressures on all of us in our personal and professional lives, compounded by many internal and external environmental factors.
You may relate to some of these feelings and situations:
Self doubt
Uncertainty
Self sabotaging habits
Lack of confidence
Feelings of overwhelm and anxiety
Poor health
Family stresses
Financial stresses
Workplace stresses
Exhaustion or burnout
Lack of time to get it all done
Cultural pressure
The list of real life goes on. None of this means you have this ‘man made syndrome’!
What it really is, is a LABEL.
Today’s unregulated, UNQUALIFIED social media scourge is slapping a label on everything, and it is also spreading like a toxic weed.
Imposter Syndrome, ADHD, Neurodivergent etc …..
Neurodivergent is NOT even a medical term, it’s something someone made up to say their brain works differently!!!!!! Well hello!!! That is the amazing fascinating complexities of the human brain!! So it’s NOT abnormal.
And all of a sudden, every other person says they have ADHD… WTF??
This is not the blog to go deep into the neuroscience and psychoimmunology of ADHD, but I can support today's 24/7 high stress, plugged in lifestyle that contributes to a chaotic brain. Millions of people feel this overwhelm. This does not mean you have undiagnosed ADHD!
Ok, I am starting to get a bit of huff and puff under the collar here.
Giving yourself a LABEL actually forms part of your identity.
If you attach your identity to something, you keep it. You are basically ‘binding’ to it.
No matter how much ‘self work’ you do, that is who you are, because that is what you say you are and that is how you will stay.
Don’t identify as that! It’s really that simple.
It’s probably not what you want to hear, and it may not be a quick fix. To shift your perspective is a powerful way to change your state, so you can take on an empowering journey forward of courageous action to rise up into a higher version of yourself that is confident and resilient.
For some reading this, it may just be the light bulb moment you needed to LET GO of this identity and embrace how powerful you really are.
This blog is challenging the status quo. You are not broken and don’t need to be fixed! You are whole, you are perfectly imperfect just as you are. We ALL are!! What you do need is the correct guidance and mentorship to fulfil your goals and dreams.
If you get to know me, and my traumatic life story, and the fact that I have spent the last 30 years literally helping thousands of people transform their life, you will know I say these words with respect, love, empathy, compassion, kindness and understanding.
To overcome ANY challenge, we must look at what is holding us back and give it another meaning.
There are so many layers to this, I have lived through countless personal challenges so I teach what I have learnt through life’s lessons and the many mentors I have had along the way.
With a fresh new perspective, that is, breaking out of a false identity shaped by external influences, it’s time for introspection, self-awareness, and a commitment to personal growth without labels.
I AM is both a conscious and unconscious instruction, either empowering or disempowering. It is BINDING… it is an AGREEMENT you have made with yourself. True or untrue!!
Here are some simple steps to consider moving forward with a new identity.… make it powerful, give yourself a cape and be your own Superhero!
Disclaimer:
These points are not new. They are fundamentals of personal growth and transformation. Your mission, if you choose to accept, is to understand your past does not define your future, and you can set yourself free of an identity that is NOT who you truly are on a deep soul level. None of us are. We are PURE POTENTIAL.
Let’s go!! Try this. I believe in you!
1. Self-Reflection
Spend time reflecting on your beliefs, values, and behaviors. Ask yourself:
What do I truly believe in, and why?
Which of my values and beliefs are genuinely mine, and which have been adopted from others?
What makes me feel genuinely happy and fulfilled?
2. Identify External Influences
Recognize the influences that have shaped your identity. Consider the roles of family, education, peers and the online noise of so called ‘experts’
3. Challenge Assumptions
Question the assumptions and beliefs you have taken for granted. Ask:
Is this belief serving me well?
Does this value align with who I want to be?
4. Explore New Perspectives
Expose yourself to different viewpoints and experiences. Break out of limiting beliefs and expand your understanding of yourself.
5. Practice Mindfulness and Self-Awareness
Stay present and connected with your true feelings and thoughts.
Observe your thoughts and behaviors without judgment.
6. Set Personal Goals
Define what you want to achieve based on your own desires and values.
Never never never give up dreaming!
7. Seek Support
Consider seeking guidance from mentors, coaches, or therapists who can help you with a plan of action and accountability.
8. Embrace Change and Growth
It’s a never ending journey.
9. Cultivate Self-Compassion and be kind to yourself throughout this journey.
It’s normal to feel uncertain or uncomfortable during this process.
Mistakes and setbacks are part of growth.
Your worth is not determined by external validation but by your own sense of self.
Conclusion...
You are not broken, and don't need to be fixed. We all feel fear. The secret is don't let it BECOME you.
Imposter Syndrome is a 'man made' phenomenon and we compound our self-doubt by allowing the internet to influence us when we are vulnerable.
By letting go of an 'identity' that doesn't serve you, that was probably planted by someone else in the first place, you can rewire your brain rapidly with a shift in perspective, to a new courageous, confident version of you. Feel the fear, and just keep taking the next step forward.
